The decorative painting of Petrykivka
The cultural foundation of Myroslava Dashivets s work, between Ukrainian tradition and a contemporary hand.
My love of painting is deeply rooted in the singular style of my native region. I was born and raised in Petrykivka, in the Dnipro region of Ukraine, the cradle of a distinctive ornamental and floral art that I practice with pride.
Petrykivka ornaments, inscribed on UNESCO s Intangible Cultural Heritage list since 2013, originated in the traditional decoration of homes: window frames, doors and even the central stove. Inspired by flora, fauna and folklore, these motifs are painted with delicate techniques, including brushes traditionally made from cat hair.
Today I continue this tradition while giving it a contemporary touch. I apply these motifs to everyday wooden objects as well as ceramics, leather and glass, bringing new life to this timeless artistic heritage.
Where is Petrykivka located?
Petrykivka is located in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine. Petrykivka decorative painting was inscribed in 2013 on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
